The model's mother Bruna tells Italy's Vanity Fair : "Elisabetta is very down in the dumps. I've spoken to her and she is very sad, but these things happen." Elisabetta's father Cesare tells the magazine he thinks Clooney would have made an "ideal son in law," but adds: "it's my daughter who has to decide." 

Clooney, 50, and Canalis, 32, announced their split last week, saying in a joint statement: "It's very difficult and very personal and we hope everyone can respect our privacy."
