William Shatner Challenges Brooke Anderson
October 10, 2011
William Shatner sits down with The Insider's Brooke Anderson for a wide ranging interview in which he discusses his latest projects and opens up about his previous wife's drowning death in 1999.
Shatner spoke about the things he learned from filming his new documentary The Captains -- due out on DVD October 18 -- which examines the relationships between all the actors who have portrayed his iconic Star Trek character Captain Kirk. He specifically recounts his conversation with Chris Pine, who played Kirk in the 2009 film Star Trek, and reveals how the encounter ended in an arm wresting match.
The 80-year-old actor has not slowed down much in his career, with a new book in release, Shatner Rules, as well as a new album called Seeking Major Tom, which drops tomorrow. The CD features Shatner covering hits by famous rockers in his own inimitable style.
Shatner -- who has been married to his current wife Elizabeth Martin since 2001 -- recounts the day he found his former wife's lifeless body in the swimming pool of his home and called 911, triggering a series of accusatory tabloid headlines. He describes the scene as "a nightmare scenario right out of a horror movie," but explains how he was able to turn the tragic event into something positive to help troubled women.
