Lindsay Handcuffed After Probation Revoked

A judge revoked Lindsay Lohan's probation and ordered that the star be taken into custody during a hearing this morning in Los Angeles.

Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner explained that she was making the ruling after receiving reports that Lohan had "blown off" nine community service appointments at a downtown women's shelter that were ordered as part of her probation conditions. The judge expressed disappointment at Lindsay's consistently poor probation performance and stated that "probation is a gift, not a right."

Lohan was placed in handcuffs at the conclusion of the hearing, but was posting bail to go free. The judge set a probation violation hearing for November 2 before deciding how to proceed further. In the meantime, she strongly encouraged the actress to perform a minimum of 16 hours of community service per week at the morgue ahead of the next hearing.

After Wednesday's hearing, Lohan's rep Steve Honig said in a statement: "Lindsay is hoping this matter will be resolved on November 2 and the court will reinstate probation and allow her to continue fulfilling her community service."

On Tuesday, Lohan took to Twitter and posted the following: "I just want it to be known, that just because I was not followed&photographed during the times I've gone to community service, does NOT mean that I wasn't following my obligations (by going) to the court."

Lohan, 25, pleaded no contest on May 11 to a misdemeanor theft charge involving a necklace taken from a Venice, CA jewelry store. She was placed on three years probation and ordered to spend 120 days in jail and complete 480 hours of community service in connection with a previous sentence for violating probation in a 2007 misdemeanor DUI case.
