"Busy, busy, busy signing off on the Lindsay Lohan pictorial that everybody's talking about and very excited about," says Hef, dressed in his trademark silk smoking jacket. "It's a classic tribute, inspired by the original Tom Kelley nude pictorial of Marilyn Monroe."

So, is it true that will Lindsay be fully nude? "Oh yes," replies Hef, "and classy, very classy."

Hef confirms that the special January/February double issue will be out in the latter part of December.

"It turned out very well," reports Hef. "I would say that I had some reservations early on, but after a couple of false steps, everybody came on board and it's going to be very exciting."

"The amount of anticipation and interest I had not expected," he adds. "For whatever combination of reasons, there's a tremendous amount of worldwide interest. It's hard to compare with just a celebrity. I think it's more complicated than that."

Hef also references Sunday's New York Times article, which compares Lindsay's decision to pose nude to classic examples of other notable women who have used appearances in Playboy to turn their careers around.

"I hope that's what's going to happen with Lindsay," says Hef. "One hopes that this will be a change in direction for her."
