Where Christina Aguilera & Bill Clinton Dine
Where do celebs love to go for an night of over-the-top decadence in NYC? None other than trendy eatery Buddakan. Sound familiar? You may recognize the space from Carrie and Mr. Big's outlandish rehearsal dinner in Sex and the City or from the lists of New York places to see and be seen. From the sumptuous food to the lavish decor to the sensual ambiance, everything about the Buddakan experience is grand. With more than 15,000 square feet of space, faux European tapestries and assorted pan-Asian aesthetics, Buddakan impresses in just a glance.
Buddakan loves excess -- and if the 275 seats for dinning and another 50 more for the bar areas didn't convince you -- the cavernous dinning room with walls as high as a Brooklyn apartment building should. With all this flashiness and pomp and circumstance -- can Buddakan's food measure up to it's own hype? The answer: yes and yes.
What To Eat:
-The Edamame Dumplings: They are a staple of the restaurant, never had anything like it. With their light taste, it's clear why these dumplings are a hit.
-Scallion Pancakes: Put away your maple syrup, there's nothing from IHOP 'round these parts. The pairing of braised short ribs and shaved green apple make these pancakes dance on your tongue.
-Glazed Alaskan Black Cod: It melts in your mouth. It's like the Little Mermaid is having a symphony in your mouth.
-Charred Filet of Beef: The sauce was unreal. I just want to put it all over everything, forever and always.
-Crying Chocolate: From elaborate presentation to taste, the whole dessert was a hit. The jasmine tea ice cream was an unusual addiction and is sure to conjure up whatever memories the smell of jasmine holds for you.

If you are looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or you want to hobnob with New York's glitterati (and don't mind paying the hefty price tag), Buddakan is your best bet. But if you don't want to deal with the egos and the self-important glamor, keep your sweatpants on. Dial up the local Thai place and rent a movie -- I hear Sex and the City is a good one.
