After her successful career veered into a world of personal struggle that unfolded in the public eye, Demi Lovato unveiled a look at her recovery process through a MTV special entitled "Stay Strong."
In the one-hour special, Lovato retraced her demise and recovery and was very straightforward about her struggles with addiction, self-injury, and eating disorders.

"Everyone kind of just made me a role model and I hated that," the 19-year-old singer and actress said. "I was partying, I was self-medicating, and I was like 'You don't know what I'm suffering with. You don't know what I'm dealing with. Why would you want your kids to be like me?'"
Lovato admitted that unfulfilled expectations that were pressed upon her made her implode with guilt and shame, which she then responded to by taking it out on herself.
