Dr. Phil Sounds Off on Teacher-Student Romance

Dr. Phil has dealt with some very bizarre situations over the years on his show and certainly has his viewers raising their eyebrows this week to a teacher who is dating one of his high school students.
"You've got someone that's 23 years older, in a position of authority over a student," Dr. Phil described the scrutinized situation. "Whether it's criminal or not, it doesn't pass the smell test with me."
The high school girl is 18 years old, so her relationship with her teacher is technically not illegal, and though they deny it to Dr. Phil, he says he finds it hard to believe that their relationship didn't begin before the girl was a legal adult.
"I personally don't believe that this is a relationship that didn't start until [she was] 18," Dr. Phil said, citing evidence that the two were in possible inappropriate contact prior to her status as a legal adult.
As for the risk of this abnormal situation, Dr. Phil called it "a psychological train wreck for everybody involved" and predicted that it has close to no chance of working out healthily in the long-term future.
