Josh picked up the pooch, named Driver, from Hands Paws Hearts in Lancaster, CA after he was rescued from an animal shelter. But it turns out the special needs pit bull had to undergo surgery to repair a broken bone before Josh could take him home.

And Josh revealed the interesting origins behind the pup's name at Saturday's GLAAD Awards. "I'm obsessed with the movie Drive, and Ryan Gosling's character was named Driver," he told Us Weekly. "I always thought it was a good name for a dog so it just kind of worked out."
