Demi Lovato: 'Promoters Gave Me Drugs'
April 23, 2012
Like many teen stars before her, Demi Lovato found herself in a dark place as the result of her monumental fame at such a young age. But she proved the cliche wrong by getting the help she needed, emerging revitalized and ready to continue her quest of global domination.
But Demi remembers those dark times quite clearly and is now speaking out in hopes of helping other young stars avoid the same fate.

In a new interview with Fabulous Magazine, Demi opens up about the pitfalls that led her to drugs -- and the shocking way she often times came by the substances. "It's something I don't really want to talk about, [but] what I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay 'up,'" she says.

Which wasn't a difficult thing to do, according to the singer. "Promoters gave me drugs and alcohol in restaurants or clubs," she reveals. "They wanted me to come back so I would be seen there. They were basically kissing my ass."
Surrounded by enablers, Demi is thankful to the few who forced her into rehab two years ago. "Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no'. That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me," she said.
