As an established actress, Malin Akerman has pockets deep enough to afford some of life's finest luxuries, but the 27 Dresses actress put things into perspective when she recently lived on a $1.50 daily food budget.
PICS: Malin Akerman Monkeys Around
In association with Opportunity International (which provides financial tools to impoverished people around the globe), Akerman took the "Live Below the Line" challenge to raise awareness for 1.4 billion people around the world who have only $1.50 daily to cover all of their expenses.
In her video diary of the journey (posted above), Akerman forgoes her $5 meeting latte and has to sacrifice her normal array of vegetables for a couple bags of ramen, some rice, and lentils in order to stay on-budget at the market.
As she continues through the day, Akerman is humbled when she eats rice and lentils for both breakfast and lunch, and is perplexed as she imagines having to constantly eat the same dish because it was the only affordable one.
Check out Akerman's video diary to see her experience first-hand. Her most recent film, Rock of Ages, will hit theaters this June.
