RIP 'Mr. Trololo'
He took the Internet by storm two years ago with the strangest, happiest song, and now Russian crooner Eduard Khil, aka "Mr. Trololo," has passed away due to complications from a stroke in St. Petersburg. He was 77.

When a 1976 clip of Khil performing the wordless tune I Am Glad, 'Cause I'm Finally Returning Back Home on Soviet television randomly popped up on the Internet in 2010, it soon went viral and gave the forgotten Russian baritone international fame.
Originally written at the height of the Cold War back in 1966 with lyrics about an American cowboy -- which were later removed -- the surreal video of Khil performing with a wide-eyed perma-grin among wavy, muted earth tones seemed like something that would be playing on a background television in Twin Peaks' Great Northern lodge.
The upbeat nature of the "Trololo" song, while a bit odd at first, ultimately puts a smile on the face of anyone listening, and it's nice to think that Khil received such a warm renaissance of interest in his final years, thanks to the power of the Internet.

Eduard Khil may be dead, but the heavens are no doubt echoing with the warm waves of "Trololo" and he will live forever online as a never-ending meme. Surely he is glad, because he has finally returned back home.
