Trash Talk: Bratz Dolls vs. Lady Gaga
MGA Entertainment, the manufacturer of the those trampy Bratz dolls, is suing Lady Gaga, her management company Atom Factory and Bravado International Group, a merchandising company. MGA claims that Miss Lady and her camp have neglected to approve a line of dolls in a timely fashion. And they ain’t smiling! The manufacturer is now seeking more than $10 million in damages. Hello Dolly!
In December 2011, the doll manufacturer agreed to make the Gaga dolls at Bravado’s request, and subsequently the toy company paid $1 million in preparation for the dolls to be shipped this summer, before the holiday season, according to Bloomberg. However, MGA says that Bravado’s CEO informed the dolly designers in April that Gaga wanted to wait until 2013, when her next album is released.
Bloomberg reports that MGA claims the defendants have stalled approval in order to delay manufacturing until next year and instead sell a licensed Lady Gaga perfume called “Fame.” Also, the company alleges they had $28 million in anticipated sales for the dolls this fall, and had set up deals with six distributors.
MGA said in their complaint, the “Defendants’ conduct is egregious, in bad faith and is pretextual, especially in light of the fact that MGA has, among other things, paid Bravado a $1,000,000 advance, agreed to an excessively generous royalty rate, invested millions in the preproduction of the Lady Gaga dolls and put its reputation and goodwill on the line in order to secure distributors and retail shelf space.”
Lady Gaga’s spokeswoman said the singer hasn’t seen the complaint and has no comment. If this is real, then Lady Gaga should stop holding stuff up and let those freaky little dolls come out. I’m sure Little Monsters everywhere would want their very own Gaga to carry around and scare their goody-two-shoes friends.
Hmm sounds to me like Lady G is being a real brat! Hey oooooh!
Love and creepy dolls,
