On this weekend in 1989, Houston was celebrating her 26th birthday in grandiose style with a party at her house. In attendance among many celebrities was her then-boyfriend Eddie Murphy as well as her soon-to-be-boyfriend Bobby Brown, who she had just met at the Soul Train Awards.

"Whitney, she invited me. I'm having a great time," Brown says when interviewed. "I just want to say, 'Happy Birthday, Whitney. You're doing great. I wish I could be like you one day.'"

When Houston is asked as to why she chose to throw an extravaganza for this birthday instead of her 25th birthday or some other milestone, she replies, "Because I made it past 25."
