Emmitt Smith knows a lot about being in the public eye. Not long after his successful football career, he went on Dancing with the Stars and proved not only that he was a jock who could dance, he also won the competition. Now Emmitt -- who is returning to DWTS this fall as an all-star -- is weighing in on the recent troubles of NFL player Chad Johnson.

During an interview with The Insider's Kevin Frazier, Emmitt said he doesn't think the Miami Dolphins were out of line for cutting Chad from the team. "From a character standpoint, I think the league, or the Dolphins, felt like they had had enough," Emmitt said. "And they felt like they didn't want any more, and decided to make a business decision."

Emmitt said Chad -- who was arrested Saturday night for allegedly head butting his wife, Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada -- still has a chance to redeem himself in football. "Unfortunately for Chad, that's the decision that they chose to make. So hopefully he has another opportunity to get on another team and maybe rectify the situation and move forward." Lozada filed divorce papers on Tuesday stating that her marriage to Chad was "irretrievably broken."

Johnson -- who formerly went by the name Chad Ochocinco -- has been involved with several reality shows and was also a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. But Emmitt said he doesn't think Chad's involvement in those shows can be blamed for his recent problems. "At the end of the day, people knew about Chad. Unfortunately, when things positive happen, it gets very little notice," Emmitt said. "But when you do things that are not so positive, then you get a lot of attention."
