As a high-profile celebrity, Eva Longoria's personal life, most especially her relationships, is subjected to a torrent of media inspection; however, before she became a household name, she willingly shared her views on love and marriage.
This Pop Culture Rewind takes you back to this date in 2004, to a set visit of Desperate Housewives a few months before the show first premiered.

"I think we're brought up with this...fairytale romance of 'This is the way it's supposed to be. You're supposed to have a soul mate in life' and my motto is: 'Fall in love as much as you can, and just be happy,'" Longoria says in the featured flashback.
As for her personal experience with love, Longoria was just coming off her short marriage with General Hospital star Tyler Christopher, and expresses her feelings about marriage.
"Marriage is a very hard thing. That's why I couldn't do it. I wasn't prepared for it," she says. "It's truly, truly a beautiful sacrament of a religious aspect, [but] I don't think marriage necessarily works in our society anymore...I have very strong values; I'd love to be with one person forever, but the actual act of marriage is so religious."

While almost all actors attempt to promote their new show by emphasizing the show's uniqueness, Longoria says that she truly feels the distinction of Housewives from other shows.
"I've never read anything like this; I've never seen anything like this," the then 29-year-old actress says. "Our show...laughs at the serious issues in life, and I think that's how you get through them...It's showing the real side of housewives."
Desperate Housewives not only launched Longoria career but became one of the most popular shows on television during its eight-season run.
