During an interview with his band Aerosmith, Steven Tyler commented on the new American Idol judges panel, while offering insight into what made the last group of judges work so well.

"I think it's gonna find it's sway," Tyler said. "They have to sit next to each other and deal with each other and get their personalities to work. We'll see what happens. [Jennifer Lopez], I and Randy -- it worked right away. I knew from having lunch with Randy that I could sit next to him in front of 40 million people watching and have fun, because he's that real. And J.Lo I was enamored by."

Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj will join Idol veteran Randy Jackson as judges on the singing competition, filling spots vacated by Tyler and J.Lo.

Now, with his schedule freed up, Tyler has been back on the road with Aerosmith for their Global Warming Tour. Still, Tyler may not have put his Idol days entirely behind him. When asked if he would ever consider mentoring on the show, Tyler replied, "If there's time ... maybe."
