Fiona Apple's comeback seems to be headed down a bumpy path. On September 19, Apple was arrested at the notorious Sierra Blanca, Texas border stop when authorities allegedly found hashish on her tour bus. Recently the singer has been touring the country with her fourth studio album The Idler Wheel.... Over the weekend, the Grammy winner, who has talked openly of her past battle with anorexia, looked extremely gaunt and emaciated at a performance on September 30, 2012 in Miami Beach, Florida (pictured above).

Apple's past with anorexia is a long and storied one. Media speculation about her weight first began back in 1997 when an article in the New Yorker claimed she "looked like an underfed Calvin Klein model." Rumors swirled about the singer's extremely thin appearance. She eventually spoke up about her eating disorder, saying that she became anorexic after being raped outside of her mother's house when she was 12 years old. She even addressed her issues in her song 1999 song, Paper Bag: "Hunger hurts, but starving works when it costs too much to love."

During another show in Clearwater, Florida on Saturday night, Apple, wearing a loose sweatshirt, sat down cross-legged on stage and addressed the many rumors and media attention circulating since her arrest two weeks ago. She spoke about being hurt by critics saying she looked old, that she was on drugs and specifically called out Perez Hilton and TMZ for persecuting her.

She even her addressed her evident weight loss, saying, "I'm f*cking losing weight because I'm having trouble digesting food because your guts are connected to your brain and I have a lot of stress in my brain."

Well her digestion issues may be true, but looking at these photos the star does not look healthy at all. Her sunken face and bony appearance is very alarming. Given her past battle with anorexia, it's possible the singer has fallen back into old habits. Let's hope the talented star gets the help she needs – whatever it may be -- so that she can lead a healthy life and continue making angsty music that young girls can writhe around the floor in their lingerie to.
