Are Chris Brown and Rihanna Back Together?
Are Rihanna and Chris Brown back together? Well no one knows for sure but it sure sounds like it. Earlier this week, several major outlets reported that the star-crossed lovers spent some steamy time together in a bathroom at Griffin club in NYC. Last night, the pair was spotted together at Jay-Z’s concert in Brooklyn. And now the convicted felon has told Us Weekly that he and aspiring model Karrueche Tran have ended their year-long romance. All roads here lead to terrible.
The 23-year-old Chris told the mag, "I have decided to be single to focus on my career. I love Karrueche very much but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives." Ugh. Don't cry too much Karrueche -- you're better off.
Hey Chris Brown by "single" do you mean f*cking your ex girlfriend in a bathroom? That doesn’t sound like "friendship" to me. Maybe I need some new friends. While Rihanna and Chris’ rekindled romance is still murky -- it seems pretty clear they have an extremely unhealthy relationship. Even if he never touches her again -- a lot has gone on between them. If you don’t believe me, we all have the court-documented photos and the felony conviction to prove it. Call me crazy, but hooking up with your ex (that you beat) in a public restroom in the wee hours of the morning when you have a girlfriend, doesn’t seem like a healthy path to a successful relationship to me.
At first, hearing the rumors they are back together made me extremely angry. I want to shake Rihanna and say, "You are an idiot! This is not going to end well! I don’t care if you asked for it or not – you are an example to women and little girls around the world. By doing this you are saying is that abuse is okay!"
Okay, things are now about to get a lil' real: Yes, I want to scream that stuff as I type this at my computer, but as a woman who was once in an emotionally abusive relationship, I mostly feel sorry for Rihanna. These kinds of relationships are hard to break – they are encompassing and all consuming. It’s very clear these two have very strong feelings for each other – no one is denying that. For the past few years they have danced around their continued friendship, they tweet at each other and they still speak about each other in public. Rihanna talked about Chris in her recent Oprah interview – even referring to him as “the love of her life.” They obviously still have feelings for each other. But that’s not the point. Sometimes love is not enough – and sometimes there is too big a price to pay for love. Rihanna’s bloodied face seems a pretty good example of that.
I’m sure people telling Rihanna and Chris they can’t be together only makes this toxic bond or "friendship" they share stronger. I know it did for me in my past. It’s Chris and Rihanna against the world! Only they understand their deep love; only they get how much they mean to each other. I've heard and felt it all. Only problem is sometimes the world is right – and sometimes people are so caught up in overwhelming emotions that they can’t really see what is best for them. Sometimes relationships are addictions – that need to be broken.
And another thing, has anyone ever heard Chris Brown speak? Sure the guy can dance, but what a prick! In interview upon interview, Chris Brown seems to be filled with rage and seems to blame the public for his many problems – and not his actions that caused the public outcry. Hey Chris Brown – people don’t like it when you beat women, that’s the consequence for beating women. Maybe I’d feel different about Chris if he seemed repentant, but nothing I’ve seen over the past few years (particularly his headline-making interview with Robin Roberts) has made me feel that way. While many (including Rihanna) may have forgiven Chris for his actions on the night of February 8, 2009 – I can’t.
Maybe if these two love birds do get back together they will be lucky in love again, but somehow that seems highly unlikely. For now, I pity Rihanna that she is not strong enough to cut someone like that out of her life. But that’s just my opinion, man – what do I know? I’ve never been beaten to a pulp by my boyfriend before – or gone back to him.
