This 26-year-old writer/actress/director -- who just inked a book deal that will reportedly earn her $3.5 million -- received multiple Emmys for her HBO series Girls.

1. Born May 13, 1986, in New York City -- her father is a painter and her mother a designer and photographer.

2. Says she had a hard time fitting in at her primary school, Friends Seminary, revealing she "had no friends and worried a lot."

3. Received as a Christmas present at age 14 a series of stand-up comedy lessons.

4.  Began shooting her own videos and short films while attending Oberlin College in Ohio.

5. Her big break in Hollywood came after she directed the 2010 independent film Tiny Furniture.
