The Single Best Emmys Moment
September 19, 2011
Let's be real, while the 2011 Emmy winners were a breath of fresh air (Kyle Chandler, FTW!), the show itself was something of a snooze. And who knew Joel McHale, Cobie Smulders and Zachary Levi could actually do something regrettable? Thanks a lot Emmy Tones!
But the show's single greatest moment came when Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara came out to present the Outstanding Lead Actress, Comedy category. And by greatest moment, I do not mean the combined hotness of those two ... although that was nice.
What I'm referring to the brilliant bit all the nominated ladies participated in, dreamed up by Amy Poehler. You may remember her inciting something similar in 2009 with the glasses, but this year took the creative cake!
As each lady heard their name called, they ascended the stage like Miss America, leading to the first time I ever hoped for an all-ladies six way! Making this she-bang infinitely better was the look of pure shock on Melissa McCarthy's face and the S-bomb she dropped after winning. Actually, strike that -- the best thing about the entire moment was watching Tina Fey, Martha Plimpton, Amy Poehler, Edie Falco and Laura Linney share a genuine moment of excitement for their fellow nominee!
