Paranormal Activity 3 is on its way to achieving the unthinkable after setting the record for best horror movie opening.
Paranormal Activity 3 is expected to take in more than $50 million for its debut weekend at the U.S. box office and $80 million worldwide, which puts the threequel on track to outperform the previous two movies. With the general rule of thumb being that the third film in a franchise underperforms the second, Paranormal Activity 3 could rewrite the rule book for Hollywood sequels.
Meanwhile, The Three Musketeers 3D had a lackluster opening, pulling in $8.8 million as the fourth highest grossing movie of the weekend.
Real Steel reeled in $10.9 million in its third weekend, placing in second, while Footloose garnered $10.5 million for third.
