If the truest test of an actor's mettle is to see how much they can make out of supporting roles, then Dallas Roberts is one of the greatest actors of his generation.

Not only does he deliver an addictive performance as Alicia's brother Owen on The Good Wife, but he's currently starring alongside Zach Gilford and Amber Heard in the fantastic film, The River Why. As Titus, the emotional confidant our hero Gus finds in America's wilds, Dallas turns a small supporting role into a larger than life character.

But it was the real world filming locations that left Dallas humbled. "The Pacific Northwest where we shot the movie is so incredible. In a lot of ways, I feel like this is a love letter to the outdoors," Dallas tells Insider.com.

"And the people who live there are such fans of the book because it's been speaking about that environment for decades." Nature was at the forefront of everyone's mind during filming as well, since this production was totally green. "That's just one of the things that really appealed to me about this part," he says. The other: getting a chance to get his hands dirty.

"Neither Titus nor I are very skilled fisherman," Dallas says. "So those scenes of him failing are pretty much the height of my ability." Outside of the water, however, fans have been awed by the tremendous abilities he brings to The Good Wife. A fact that still catches him off-guard.

"Any time anyone responds positively to anything I do, I'm kind of surprised," he laughs. "I feel very lucky to play Owen and to be a part of The Good Wife. It's such a phenomenal show. I love Owen and maybe that's why people like him. Certainly he's a singular pressure valve for Alicia and, perhaps, people love to see that once in a while."

Fans have also been elated by the surprise showdowns Owen shares with Peter's mother, Jackie. "It's always so much fun when Owen and Jackie lock horns," he says, adding that his next appearance on the show (airdate TBD) will see him back with Alicia in "some really fun ways."

But how will those ways compare to Owen & Alicia's season two roadtrip? "It's just as fun but without the joint," he jokes. "But Julianna [Margulies] and I had a great time filming that. Any time you can almost smoke pot on CBS, you know you're living life!"
