Adam Shankman's big screen adaptation of Broadway's Rock of Ages has been one both the music world and the film world have been keeping an eye on since, many feel, this will decide the future of movie musicals as their popularity has seriously waned in recent years (2008's Mamma Mia! was the last lyrical cinematic success story).

And judging from the just-released trailer ... this might be the genre's swan song.

Don't get me wrong, there's is a certain glee I feel in seeing Tom Cruise play a washed up rock star, Julianne Hough flip her hair like it's going out of style and Catherine Zeta-Jones belt out 80s hairband classics while dressed like an Avon lady, but I don't know if that's enough to sustain a two-hour movie.
