Kate Beckinsale is back as the legendary vampire warrior Selene, kicking Lycan butt and taking names in the all-new Underworld Awakening, in theaters January 20, and the sultry franchise veteran says that she was actually once intimidated by that sexy, skin-tight costume she wears for the films.

"I remember the first movie I did I was very intimidated by the costume," says Kate, who first donned the form-fitting costume in 2003. "I trust it now. Actually, it gives you a little bit of help, if anything."

In the 3D Underworld Awakening, the fourth and most spectacular installment of the popular vampires vs. werewolves franchise, mankind has discovered the existence of both the Vampire and Lycan clans, and launched an all-out war to eradicate both species. Selene faces her most powerful adversary yet, just as she discovers a shocking secret that will change everything she has ever fought for.

"It was a very life-changing role for me personally," says Kate of Selene. "I feel very affectionate towards it. It's exciting to be able to follow a character over such a long period of time, and it's rare to get that chance."

Directed by Mårlind & Stein (Shelter, Storm) and written by Len Wiseman,John Hlavin, J. Michael Straczynski and Allison Burnett, Underworld Awakening also stars Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley and Charles Dance
