Naomi Watts Will Play Princess Diana
Anything worth doing once, is worth doing multiple times -- at least that's the mantra in Hollywood, where there are always at least two movies covering the same topic being produced at any given time.
See: Julia Roberts' Mirror Mirror and Charlize Theron's Snow White and the Huntsman, two tales of that apple-loving lady, both slated for 2012 debuts.
The latest hot topic is Princess Diana, with two rumored biopics (one starring Charlize Theron and the other Keira Knightley) snagging headlines last year. And while both are still in the development phases, a third has leapt to the forefront as Naomi Watts has signed on to play Lady Di in Caught In Flight.
"It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role," Watts said in a statement. "Princess Diana was loved across the world and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen."
But unlike the other two, which were rumored to tackle the early days of her royal life, this film will start in 1995, when Diana began an affair with Dr. Hasnat Kahn and continued until a few months before her death. Many reported that Diana called Kahn the love of her life and that their split fueled her to start dating Dodi Fayed in order to make him jealous.
According to sources, the script for Caught In Flight will apparently portray the Princess "as a damaged person who stalks the doctor after he ends the affair."
