Drew Barrymore has been acting almost literally from the moment she was born, and for this Pop Culture Rewind we take you back to an interview for one of her less recognized films, Bad Girls, which turned the tables on traditional gender roles.

Drew Barrymore Talks Wedding Plans

"It's not about feminism. It's about equality, which I love," Barrymore says in the interview, which took place on this date in 1994. "We do our own stunts and you see us doing all these things that traditionally men do in westerns. I think it's a nice change of pace."

The then-19-year-old actress also talks about what a pleasure it was to film the project, what it was like to shoot guns in the film, and her views on her duty to the audience as an actress.

Drew Barrymore 'Slowly' Planning Wedding

"I never want people to look at the screen and say, 'Oh, that's Drew Barrymore,' I always want them to believe me as the character," she says. "That's the whole fun of what I get to do—be a different person and change the look…I think it's great to go as far as you can with that…I always hope that [viewers] believe me as the person."

Ten years later Barrymore starred in the film My Date with Drew, in which she played herself. She didn't change her look in that film, but we certainly had no trouble believing her character.
