On this date in 1999, those captivated hearts were showing Roberts plenty of love at the premiere of Notting Hill, as a roar of fans awaited on the red carpet for Ms. Roberts to make her appearance.

"I was just overwhelmed by the support," Roberts said inside the theater. "How nice of people to come out and wait and say 'Good luck' and 'Well done'...I was really impressed. It was really nice...I've never seen anything like that in my life."'

Although the then-29-year-old Roberts expressed great gratitude for her fans, she admitted that it isn't entirely pleasant to have a wave of fans screaming your name. "It's nerve-wracking," she admits. "Whenever you have a lot of people shouting your name when they're rather close to you, it rattles one's nerves."
