For this Pop Culture Rewind we take you back to a time when Charlie Sheen was revisiting his demons for a TV movie called Rated X in which he starred with his brother, Emilio Estevez.
On this date in 2000, Sheen, who was born "Carlos Estevez," talks about what it was like for him to delve back into a world that resulted in a rehab stint for him in 1998.

"I had no real plan except to...follow the instincts and go with the truth and let adrenaline drive me towards the truth," Sheen says of his approach to his role in the film. "There's a certain line you have to cross where it is fiction. You are snorting lactose; the vodka is water; the women are actresses...You're mind still...convinces you that it's fiction."
As his brother recounts, Sheen was consistently faced with his prior demons on the set, which made Emilio uneasy but he ultimately arrived at the conclusion that it was a positive experience for Charlie. "This experience is going to allow him to move forward with his life," he said. "I think it's the definitive word on what he went through."

Sheen reiterates the distinction between the film world and real life, saying,"[The] bottom line is: the guy I play is dead--God rest him--and I'm alive to tell that story so the victory lies in that. My story's going on. Some parts...are just beginning."
