You probably know Matthew Broderick as "Ferris Bueller" or as the husband of Sarah Jessica Parker, but for this Pop Culture Rewind, we take you back to a time when he was known as "Simba."

On this date in 1994, Broderick was being interview for the upcoming animated classic The Lion King, in which he played the voice of adult Simba.

"The animation was so impressive that I was knocked out," the then-32-year old actor said of the film. "It was really, very strange about halfway through the movie when my voice started popping out of the lion. It was really a unique experience."

While Simba was merely an animated character, Broderick said his friends debated as to whether his lion counterpart looked like him. "The way the lion moves reminds me of me," he said, pointing out a "lazy thing" that he had in common with Simba.

Broderick may have felt a certain connection with his character, but he revealed that he didn't do very much research for the film. "I'd love to say I lived with lions and all that stuff. I didn't really do anything because lions don't talk, from what I know," he said. "Providing the voice was sort of different."
