Just from the look of the trailer, it's clear that Snow White and the Huntsman is going for an edgier, tougher take on the classic fairy tale -- and the concept works, with the film becoming one of the most highly anticipated of the summer.
A large part of the film's deliciously dark vibe is of course the costumes -- mainly Kristen Stewart's suit of armor and Charlize's scarily intricate Evil Queen garb -- and now three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood is dishing on how she brought these looks to life.

"We didn't want her to be a sort of puffball Snow White, we wanted her to be sort of a badass Snow White, like someone who was tough, who'd had a journey already at a very young age," Atwood explains of Stewart's Snow White. "We wanted to have a sort of fairy tale quality to it, without it being fairy-like."
But Charlize Theron's Ravenna is clearly the most striking, and Atwood explains that her particular costume elements are meant to "reflect death."
"There's a collar made of stag beetle horns, there's actually a dress made out of beetle wings in her wardrobe, there's a wedding dress for her which is at the beginning of the movie that has a huge collar made out of really fine, almost skeletal-type bones … so all in all she's the haute couture sort of queen but with a sort of aged, kind of rotting edge to her," she dishes.
