As a movie star, Angelina Jolie has played a variety of different roles, but there is one that she won't forget--not because of her portrayal of the role, but rather the role's portrayal of her.

On this day in 2001, Jolie was being interviewed about Original Sin, in which she starred alongside Antonio Banderas. In the featured flashback, she talks about her then-relationship with Billy Bob Thornton and her general philosophical sentiments on love.

"What the story's about to me is somebody's that's like all of us. We're wondering if somebody can ever love us for who we completely are, for every different side of us," the then-26-year-old Jolie says, then relating the role to the happenings in her life while she was filming Original Sin.

"It was a time in my life when I was kind of suddenly very much in love [with] this pure, very happy life, and yet I'm still this person with maybe a dark side," she says. "[My character] is also slightly schizophrenic and...I think Michael [Cristofer] (director) maybe knows something about me that I don't know."

Jolie's character in the film, "Julia Russell," sets out to scam a man for his money who she ends up marrying as part of the plot; however, her scheme becomes complicated when she begins to genuinely fall in love with him.

"She somehow comes out of it learning something and...by chance...my life mirrored the film in a strange way when I discovered what love is about," she says.
