A movie star since he was 19 years old, Tom Cruise has intrigued people for decades now. As we see all too often when it comes to celebrities, everyone wants to know everything about that person's life, and Cruise has been no exception from Day 1.

This Pop Culture Rewind takes you back to this day in 1988 when Cruise was doing press for the then-upcoming film Rain Man. However, the questions in the interview don't have much to do with the film, or any film for that matter unless it was a Tom Cruise biopic.

The then-26-year-old Cruise had soared into fame after Risky Business and Top Gun, and now the public wanted to know everything about the off-screen Tom Cruise.

As he fields questions in this particular interview, you'll see that he justifiably has to manage to keep his cool after being bombarded with questions about his personal life, and ultimately manages to do so despite displaying an exasperated look on his face at times.

REWIND: Tom Cruise is Crazy on the Racetrack

"You gotta understand: It's not about being a 'movie star'...Every time we sit down, you're asking me this," he says, holding his temper. "There isn't a part of me that's cut off [from society]. It's about the work. It's wonderful being a movie star and it's a wonderful thing that's happened, but that's not how I approach...my life...I live a very normal life."

Cruise continues on ever so carefully with his words as the interviewer continues to pry into his private life. He humors her and keeps his tone calm, but is straightforward when he's asked why he trots around her questions.

"I'm doing this to help promote the films. I mean, I really don't hold back that much. You [can] ask me anything," he says, "but [there are] certain things that I really don't want to talk about and certain things that really aren't important for people to hear and I really don't even think they want to hear."

Hats off, Mr. Cruise.
