Too bad Looper got to it first… An old Clint Eastwood is pursued by a young, cloned version of himself in the sci-fi thriller Gemini Man. It's a cool concept -- and a movie you'll probably never see because it's pretty much dead in the water.

Gemini Man had been in the works for quite some time, and director Joe Carnahan (The A-Team, The Grey) recently took the reins and put together a cool "sizzle reel" trailer mashing up old and new Clint Eastwood performances to whet the appetite of studio "green lighters." The sizzle reel borrows clips from a variety of Dirty Harry movies, plus Gran Torino, Space Cowboys, In the Line of Fire, Blood Work and even The Bourne Ultimatum.

Carnahan writes of the trailer, "Sizzle reel for a defunct movie project that I was interested in doing with Bruckheimer at Disney. I was really fired up to work with one of my heroes: CLINT. That was the big reason why I put this reel together."

While Clint may no longer be an option for the "defunct" project, I'm guessing someone will mine this simple premise down the road, perhaps using some TRON: Legacy old Jeff Bridges/young Jeff Bridges magic to pull it off.

For the record, there was a short-lived TV series called Gemini Man back in the '70s, but that was about a secret agent who could turn himself invisible thanks to a freak "diving accident." No killer clones in that one...
