2NE1 is a South Korean hip-hop/pop girl group that consists of four members -- CL, Dara, Bom and Minzy -- and they were just named Best New Band in the World by MTV's Iggy. "From the moment we were nominated, we were so happy," the girls said. "We can't believe [we actually won], it hasn't hit us yet."

But who are 2NE1 and why do they deserve this accolade? Here are five fun facts:

-Their name stands for New Evolution of the 21st Century.

-They were formed in 2009 by YG Entertainment, a Korean record label and talent agency. Think Danity Kane without the reality show.

-The music video for their debut next single, Fire, received over one million views in the first 24 hours after its release.

-Although they might look like a Korean Spice Girls, the girls say: "We think of fashion as a lifestyle. It wasn't a conscious decision to make all four of us wear different outfits, but because we're so different and what we like and dislike are different it happened naturally. We weren't ever assigned anything."

-They plan to drop their first full-length album in 2012.
