In the wake of the tsunami in Japan last year, many musical artists cancelled their visits and tours to the nation. Sara Bareilles did the opposite. Instead, she went ahead with her Japan tour plans, and felt called to help in the wake of this devastating natural disaster. Sara and her touring family teamed up with the grass roots organization, All Hands, which doing hands on work to heal and help communities that had been affected.

Sara turned her time in Japan into a documentary that will make your heart simultaneously ache for the country and burst with love for Sara and her adorable one liners. The crew gets their hands filthy gutting houses and the drainage systems, and we get to see some never before seen footage of an entire city block vanishing.

The documentary is called A Trace of the Sun: Volunteering in Japan and you can watch the entire documentary here! I got a chance to sit down with Sara and chat with her about this inspiring project.
