You Must Know: New Years Day

New Years Day calls their particular brand of music "Haunted Mansion" rock, and I couldn't agree more. It's like Paramore meets a Phantom of the Opera dance party, with their catchy hooks, spooky melodies and over the top theatrics.

This band is not afraid to get their hands dirty. Back in the day, bands had relationships with their fans. This sensibility went out the door with the Myspace age but NYD keeps it alive with weekly Stickam dates with their fans, diligently responding to every comment on Facebook and coordinating a massive web of followers who call themselves "Creeps". The Creep network is spread across the country, with each state having it's own club page on Facebook and, in some cases, uniforms. Do not underestimate how much NYD loves their Creeps.

New Years Day embarks on the Fight to Unite Tour, alongside Blood on the Dance Floor, Brokencyde, Deuce, Polkadot Cadaver, William Control, The Bunny The Bear, and Haley Rose. That's right, eight bands at one show. It's like a mini venue festival.

I had the whole band in TheInsider.com studio (loving called "Grandma's House") for a chat and a performance. And, as much as I'd like to say that I had them perform in an actual park, it is, in reality, a facade. That's Hollywood for ya!

NOTE: During our chat, New Years Day told me a tour story involving sneaking half the band across the border in the back of a U-Haul. If you ever see them at a show, definitely ask them about it.
