BEARCAT Boasts A Powerful Roar
I was so excited to meet Renee Yohe when she sat down to chat about her new band BEARCAT. You might not know who Renee is, yet. But, you will soon since she's been compared to Fiona Apple, Kate Nash and Zooey Deschanel. Good company.
But, Renee isn't just some "she sounds like" story. Renee, and BEARCAT, are the real deal. If she isn't on your radar yet, there is a big chance she actually is on your radar and you just do not know it.
Anyone who attended Warped Tour and saw "To Write Love On Her Arms" scribbled on their favorite band member, knows Renee. She is the reason the non-profit organization of the same name came to be and was awarded with $1 million in December 2011 at NBC's first-ever American Giving Awards. Through sharing her own personal struggles, Renee and the organization have created a movement that's helped millions of people.
When Renee stopped by, she exuded the same kind of adorable air that has made her one of the industry's most admired icons.
I couldn't help thinking, "She's just like me!" Except I'm not cool enough to inspired a movie (To Write Love On Her Arms, starring Kat Dennings and Chad Michael Murray, is due out late 2012). I am also not cool enough to be heading out on a summer tour with Never Shout Never. But Renee is.
BEARCAT has a giant, powerful sound housed inside self-deprecating lyrics, which makes for a retro-sounding middle finger to your heart and I couldn't love it more. This is music that will change your heart. Follow Renee on Twitter here!
