You ever get the feeling that America doesn't have enough soul singers? I was reminded of this injustice when I caught up with one of Britain's biggest and best male voices, James Morrison just before his sold-out show at the Avalon in Los Angeles.

The 26-year-old singer-songwriter, who is best known for hit singles You Give Me Something and Broken Strings with Nelly Furtado, headlines a U.S. Tour for the first time with his most recent, platinum-selling album The Awakening.

The album signals a shift from his pop-heavy, "romantic" past to music with a much deeper sentiment. Inspired by the loss of his father and the birth of his first child, Morrison records one of his most personal albums to date.

His voice alone can take you on a journey of emotions. And as Morrison explains in the video above, telling such personal stories is tough but the end result is "magic."
