MTV just announced its 2012 MTV Video Music Awards nominations, with Rihanna and Drake leading the charge with five nominations each. Even more interesting? The rumored former couple is nominated for the coveted Video of the Year award for their joint hit Take Care.

Alicia Keys and British boy band One Direction are set to perform at this year's VMA's, which is also including a new category this year -- "Best Electronic Dance Music Video."

Other nominees this year include Kanye West, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Usher and Katy Perry, who came in second for the most VMA nods with four nominations total.

Beginning today at 6 a.m., viewers can vote for general VMA categories, including "Video of the Year," "Best New Artist," and more by visiting vma.mtv.com online or m.mtv.com on their mobile phone. MTV's annual Video Music Awards will take place live on September 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
