Russell Brand will star alongside Tom Cruise in 'Rock of Ages.'

Adam Shankman ('Hairspray'), who is directing the big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, tweeted Wednesday, "I can officially announce Russell Brand as your Lonny in #rockofagesmovie ! I see a mullet in his future...maybe a Nikki Six?"

At last week's 'Arthur' premiere, Russell commented on whether he'd be joining the cast, telling ET, "Yeah, I might be, if I can work out the scheduling. … Because it's difficult with my wife and everything, I have to work out the schedule."

Julianne Hough will co-star, while other celebs reportedly attached to the project include Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige.

Production on the film is expected to start in May.
