What's Next For Dexter?
October 03, 2011
"What do you believe in, Mr. Morgan?"
That was the central question in last night's religion-heavy Dexter premiere, which went a long way towards illuminating exactly how much heaven and hell will play into season six! But what's next for Miami Metro's blood-splatter demigod? Star Michael C. Hall tells TheInsider.com, "The tone is different this season. There are very dark things afoot in terms of the big bad we're dealing with."
As for that big bad, which was revealed to stem from the one-two punch of Edward James Olmos & Colin Hanks, Michael says, "There is something black snake swampy about their relationship." A statement which was highlighted, bolded and underlined during that highly unsettling beach-side, snake-filled autopsy. "Things are neither shinier nor happier this year," Michael adds.
Of course, that darkness does give way to light where Harrison is concerned. "Dexter loves his son. Dexter has always had a soft spot for kids. His own child becomes a part of the axis for his life -- [this year, Harrison] serves his dark passenger."
And fans shouldn't forget that Deb almost came face to face with Dex's dark passenger at the end of last season -- but would Michael like to see that reveal factor in to this season? "I think that's an exciting proposition from an acting standpoint, but speaking for Dexter, it would be a real game changer."
Luckily, it doesn't sound like season six will be the final chance fans will have to go on serial killer ride-alongs. "I don't have any reason to believe the sixth season will be our last," Michael says. "Beyond that, I don't know."
For now, check out a preview for next week's episode, introducing Samuel Wright (played by rapper Mos) -- a character, of whom, Michael says, "Because of who [Samuel] is on paper, Dexter is inclined to be dismissive. But [he's] also captivated by the guy."
