1. "Nothing To Worry About," Peter Bjorn & John
Remember when you couldn't leave home without hearing at least one person whistling "Young Folks"? That song was literally everywhere, for what seemed like forever. (It's still just as good today - the sign of a great song). These Swedes definitely know how to write a catchy tune. Peter and Bjorn started playing together in high school. In 1999 the two moved to Stockholm, met John, and formed (you guessed it!) Peter Bjorn & John. This song is off their 2009 album, Living Thing. They're on tour now, go see them live! Watch the video!

2. "Polish Girl," Neon Indian
High school buddies Alan Palomo and Alicia Scardetta formed Neon Indian in 2008. Their concept was to combine Alan's music and Alicia's video art to create one awesomely epic multimedia experience. This song can't not put you in a good mood. I pull a Night At The Roxbury head toss every time I play it in my car. Go on, have a listen. I dare you not to dance! Or even better, go see them live, they're on tour now! Watch the video!

3. "Anthems For A Seventeen-Year-Old Girl," Broken Social Scene
I fall in love with this song a little bit more every time I hear it. It's like a magical carpet ride that takes me back to those awkward teenage years spent pining away over boys I wished would do just what the lyrics said. "Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me." Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning formed Broken Social Scene in Toronto in 1999. They grew to become an 11 piece collective, including Feist and Metric's Emily Haines. This song is off their 2002 album, You Forgot It In People. They're touring through the beginning of October so make sure to see them live if you can! Watch the video!

4. "Colours," Grouplove
This band sure came by their name honestly! Through sheer kismet, Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi befriended the latter three members of the band while attending an artists' residency in Greece. Their debut EP, Mirrors, was released independently in 2010. Look for their first full length LP, Never Trust A Happy Song, on sale September 13th. They've opened for Florence & The Machine and are currently on the road. Check them out if they're coming through your neck of the woods! Watch the video!

5. "Woods," The Rosebuds
This duo has a very interesting story. In 2003, Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisp got married AND started a band. They lived in Raleigh, North Carolina where they wrote and recorded for five years. Upon the release of their fourth album, the couple divorced and Kelly relocated to Greenpoint, Brooklyn (I wonder if she's friends with the Greenpoint based Hooray For Earth crew? ß from last week's playlist!). This song is off their recently released fifth album, Loud Planes Fly Low. They're opening for Bon Iver - a Must See you guys! Watch the video!

6. "Abducted," Cults
If this isn't a perfect example of the power of technology and the immediacy of the Internet, well then I don't know what is. Fellow NYU students Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin formed in 2010, releasing a three song EP late last year. This past June, their self-titled debut album, Cults, was released by Columbia Records. They've already been named "Best New Music" twice by Pitchfork Media. High five, Cults! Go see them play, they're touring now. Watch the video!

7. "Villages," Alpine
Aussies do it best, mate! The Melbourne based six-piece formed in 2009 and have been tearing up the scene ever since. Last year they toured with The Naked And Famous (ß from last week's playlist too!). I love their drony harmonies. Alpine hit the road on their first headline tour earlier this year. Expect to hear a whole lot more from these guys soon! Watch the video!

8. "Morning Thought," Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr
No, they're not related.. just in case you were wondering! Based in Detroit, Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott came together in 2009. They wrote and recorded in a basement studio, releasing their debut EP, Horse Power, in 2010. I love the mesmeric melodies. They're on tour now, go check them out! Watch the video!
