Six Must-Have New Songs
1. Phantogram, Don't Move
Duo Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel often describe their music as "street beat, psych pop". They've been friends since middle school, but Phantogram didn't officially form until 2007. Their debut EP, released in March 2009, sparked widespread interest. Two months later, they released a second EP. Their first full-length album, Eyelid Movies, was released in 2010 and included songs off of both EPs. This song is off their latest EP, Nightlife, expected November 1.
2. Rihanna, We Found Love
Okay, don't judge me. I'm hooked! This song has been on repeat for days. With 4.5 million YouTube hits since being posted on October 7th, clearly I'm not showing you anything you haven't already seen here. But this song is just so damn catchy! I had to put it on this week's playlist.
3. Justice, Audio Video Disco
Finally! A new Justice album! French electro duo Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay formed in 2003. Their debut album, released in June 2007, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. Their highly anticipated sophomore album, Audio, Video, Disco will be released on October 24 (my birthday! Best present ever!!) This is the title track. Side note: Gaspard has the most amazing facial hair.
4. Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx, Nightcall
French electro house artist Kavinsky and CSS lead singer Lovefoxxx teamed up to record this song about a year ago. It's the opening song in Drive, and one of the best songs of the soundtrack. Kavinsky has toured alongside fellow mixtape artist Justice, and also Daft Punk and The Rapture.
5. Desire, Under Your Spell
Singer Meghan Louise and producer Johnny Jewel formed Desire in 2009. Jewel is also a member of Chromatics and Glass Candy. This song is off their debut album, II, released in June 2009. It's also another Drive soundtrack favorite.
6. College feat. Electric Youth, A Real Hero
College, aka David Grellier, is a musician and producer from Nantes, France. He created Valerie Collective, an artistic network, back in 2007 where he signed several musical projects such as Anoraak. Canadians Bronwyn and Austin, better known as Electric Youth, are also a part of Valerie Collective. Again, another favorite from the Drive soundtrack. Apparently I've got the French Electro Pop Fever this week.
