X marked the spot in Los Angeles on Day 1 of a nationwide search for the first $5 million "The X Factor" champion in the United States. Does the next singing sensation already call Hollywood home?
With such a large jackpot, executive producer Rob Wade estimated that over 15,000 hopefuls registered to audition. "We're looking for a global superstar… This isn't a TV show. This is genuinely an audition to find the best singer in America."
"The X Factor" is already a phenomenon in the U.K. Thanks to Simon Cowell, the talent competition jumped across the pond to U.S. turf. It's still unclear who will be joining the snarky Brit and L.A. Reid on the judging panel.
With two slots to fill, the auditionees weighed in on possibilities. Some of the names thrown out there were Cyndi Lauper and the head of Sony. Kenneth Schwab, 52, from Las Vegas, opined, "Sharon Osbourne because I love Ozzy." Sisters from the group "The Kleindashians" thought Cheryl Cole and Mariah Carey would have a lot to offer, but would be "intimidated" by Mariah. Rob promised he and Simon are actively working towards making a final decision.
Young and mature alike filled the L.A. Sports Arena, all sharing one common goal. An overwhelming number of solo acts turned up in comparison to groups. The ensembles tended to keep it a family fair. A mother and daughters group, father/son duo, and brother trio showed us what they got. Modern-day Von Trapps, the Fowler Family trio of sisters, "started singing together 7 years ago at church" and are now embarking on the road to fame and fortune.

Actress Greta Gerwig found herself in an awkward situation on set with Russell Brand while shooting the new comedy 'Arthur,' and she dished on the event to "The Insider" co-host Kevin Frazier.
Greta plays Russell's love interest in the movie, so the script called for her to kiss Russell several times, but Greta didn't know who would be watching.
"One of the scenes when he kissed me - where the first time we meet and he kisses me in front of the police officers - Katy Perry's were there that day," said Greta.
When Kevin asked how Russell kissed her, Greta responded, "Very respectfully and very aware of the fact that he's married to the most beautiful woman in the world."
While Russell is married to one of the hottest singers in the world, Katy Perry, he can still appreciate beauty when he sees it. Kevin had the comedian dish on Helen Mirren's status as a sex symbol.
"She is sexy isn't she?" Russell said of his co-star. "There's a certain type of feminine sexuality that lingers beyond adolescence."
"I just kind of let it wash over me a bit," said Helen, who continued to explain that her fans keep her grounded, saying, "Sometimes I see people in the supermarket checkout line looking at me going, 'No, that can't be her. She must look better than that.'"
'Arthur' opens Friday, April 8.
'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe chatted with "The Insider" following his opening night performance in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Broadway Sunday, reminiscing about the simpler time in which the story is set.
"It's kind of fun to be playing someone who is so shamelessly ambitious," said Daniel, who plays the opportunistic J. Pierpont Finch in the stage production. "It's from a much more innocent time in the history of the U.S. and the world... It was a time when there was no shame in being this ambitious."
Daniel's Broadway debut was in Peter Shaffer's Equus, a play which famously called for the actor to be nude on stage for a portion of the story, and Daniel admitted that this production was a welcome change of pace, especially for the young fan base that might know him from the 'Harry Potter' movies.
"It's a great show and I think everyone can kind of enjoy it," Daniel said. "It's nice, as well, to be doing something that is suitable for everybody so that everyone can come and see it."

The sun broke through the rain clouds Sunday morning as Josh Duhamel and Fergie sprinted for a cause at the Youth Run for Japan in Santa Monica.
Inspired by the devastation faced by the Japanese people in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami, actor Josh once again partnered with the American Red Cross, following up with his fundraiser last year for Haiti. "When I saw some of those images come out of Japan, I'd never seen anything like it," he said compassionately.
It was a close call for Fergie and her band The Black Eyed Peas, who were in Japan to shoot a video a mere week before disaster struck. "Leaving there we had such a positive vibe and then this happened," she said. "We were all tripping out that we were just there in Japan. It was just a wonderful chance for us to give a love letter back to Japan."
Fergie graciously celebrated her birthday with the "gift of giving." A more traditional party took place Friday night in Las Vegas. What does she hope to accomplish in her 36th year? Dianna Agron would "love" to have the "Fergalicious" singer as a guest on "Glee."
Nicky Hilton really feels for the residents of Japan. "Japan is one of the most beautiful places we've ever visited," she asserted. Sister Paris Hilton explained they've been doing business with the country since they were teenagers and have employees and friends they're concerned about.
Despite the inclement weather, Josh was pleased with the turnout and hopeful that the effort could surpass last year's donations. T-shirt sales alone have yielded $90,000 thus far. If you're interested in supporting the relief efforts in Japan, Josh recommends you visit reliefrun.com.
Comedy Central and MTV Networks honored the funniest actors, directors, writers and stand-up comedians last night at the first annual Comedy Awards at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. Guest such as Jon Cryer and Chloë Moretz were in attendance and the many funny men and women met the event with appreciation and comedic undertones.
"It's very nice of Comedy Central to do this,” Jon Stewart said. "Not a lot of people throw a party for just comedians."
Will Ferrell gave his take on how to compare this night to other awards shows on the red carpet. "I think they’re happy with settling for the ACE Cable Awards of comedy," the funnyman quipped. "If they get that, they can build up to being the Oscars of comedy."
Also on hand was Tracy Morgan, who gave his take on comedy and
its limits. "Really funny people don't have boundaries," the "30 Rock"
star commented. "If you have boundaries, to me, you're not funny."
While on the subject of no boundaries, Stephen Colbert spoke on the notion of limits in regards to George Lopez’s assault on Kirstie Alley. "That's not nice, that's not nice at all," Colbert stated. "He shouldn't do that. She's a lady."

Kelly Osbourne, the new face of Madonna and daughter Lola's Material Girl line, opened up to TheInsider.com's Nicole Dabeau about George Lopez's war of words with Kirstie Alley.
Osbourne, who has gotten weight-related flack in the press in the past, and knows what Kirstie is going through having been a "Dancing with the Stars" contestant, told Nicole that although Kirstie has made a business of her weight (having starred in the TV series "Fat Actress" and having been a spokesperson for Jenny Craig) she still thought George's comment comparing Kirstie to a pig was below the belt.
Nicole caught up with Kelly at a Material Girl event at Macy's at the Beverly Center in Beverly Hills, and there was paparazzi pandemonium when an overzealous mob of photogs overwhelmed Kelly, who then fired back, "Chill Out!" Watch the video to see the snapping snafu unfold.

So far the men have faired well on "Celebrity Apprentice," but this might come to an end next week when the guys get fed up with one of their teammates.
"Sometimes Gary [Busey] gets a little frazzled and gets all over the place, that can get distracting," said Lil John, who was voted Project Manager for this week's task of creating a telephone commercial. "People like that, you have to learn how to listen but not let them take you off of what you're doing."
During their commercial shoot for telecommunications company ACN, the cast struggled to keep Gary on task. Lil John seemed to have had enough when it was discovered that Gary was naked beneath his bathrobe after a brief wardrobe malfunction.
"What you see is what you get," said Gary. "But there's a lot of surprises in what you get when you take me."
Meanwhile, the ladies chose NeNe Leakes as Project Manager and utilized Oscar winner Marlee Matlin as the star in their advertisement.
"Marlee's an excellent producer, an amazing actress - as everyone knows - so she's really got it going on," said Star Jones. "I'm really proud of where we're going with this commercial."
Where the men's commercial took on comedic tones, the ladies used the "tried and true method" of using a sentimental story to entice viewers into trying the services advertised.
"Celebrity Apprentice" airs Sundays on NBC.
