Paul McDonald took the bullet for the remaining five-man roster, saying goodbye to the "American Idol" stage tonight.
Ryan Seacrest offered encouragement to the 26-year-old from Huntsville, Alabama, saying, "You've had such an amazing impact, man, on this show," while the audience and judges gave a standing ovation.

The night also came with another shocker as Rihanna announced that her upcoming "Loud" tour will give fans a whole new meaning for the term VIP.
"I'm really not supposed to say this, but I want to get you excited," said the pop star. "We're building two sections on the stage where the fans can actually be in the show and be in the stage and be closer than they've ever been."
Kelly Clarkson also performed on Thursday's elimination show, singing "Don't You Wanna Stay" with country star Jason Aldean.

Gwyneth Paltrow has written a new book titled My Father's Daughter in which she talks about her love of cooking and dear memories of her father, Bruce Paltrow.
"Every day with my father was amazing," says Gwyneth. "To cook with him and just be with him in the kitchen, we were always kind of inspiring each other. I have many years of great cooking memories with him."
When asked if it was an emotional experience to be talking about her father publicly again, Gwyneth said, "There's a part of myself where I have to stay pretty guarded in a way, otherwise I’d be crying in all of my interviews, but it's a very nice thing to feel reconnected to him."
My Father's Daughter is available in stores now.

In 2006, actress LisaRaye McCoy, who's the star of "The Real McCoys," married Turks and Caicos Premier Michael Misick and although the couple called it quits in 2008, McCoy is giving advice to Kate Middleton, who will also be marrying into royalty when she and Prince William say "I do" on April 29.
"Everything that you do is in the spotlight," she tells our Kevin Frazier. "Everywhere you go is in the spotlight. This marriage is going to be huge. This wedding will be huge and she cannot step in the shoes of Princess Diana. She's going to be able to do the best that she can do. So I wish them nothing but luck, communication and help and a lot of babies."
And because Turks and Caicos is a British territory, Queen Elizabeth herself had some suggestions for McCoy's wedding.
"It became bigger than what I really wanted it to be," she says of her nuptials. "I wanted a medium-sized wedding and it grew and grew and grew. And then Queen Elizabeth heard about it and then it was more flowers and more dignitaries and more people that needed to be there and then the trumpets -- and I was like I didn't really want trumpets - but I had to have the 'duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh.' And it was oh okay."
McCoy says her wedding was fit for a princess -- and she even wore Princess Grace's tiara.
"My wedding dress was phenomenal," she says. "I looked like a Barbie doll if I must say. The bodice was fitted and it came out at the waist and train was long and I just I had my head up high and just floated towards him and I didn't see anybody."
But sadly, the fairy tale didn't last for McCoy and Michael. The couple split in 2008.
Catch her show, "LisaRaye: The Real McCoy," Thursday nights on TV ONE.
The Insider is on the scene for New York's Bridal Fashion week, and we caught up with top fashion designers about the latest wedding trends.
Fashion designer Carolina Herrera tells us that her new bridal collection is inspired by the women of today. She adds, “Every single dress needs to have an important detail.”
“Very feminine, earthy and effortless," dress designer Amsale Aberra explains of her bridal collection. Her vision for bride-to-be Jessica Simpson's wedding dress is something sexy, not traditional. She thinks Natalie Portman will wear something effortless and elegant.
Celebrity brides who have worn Amsale gowns on their big day include Bethenny Frankel, Lisa Loeb and Julie Berman.
Legends by Romona Keveza is a collection inspired by Kate Middleton. Keveza describes the line as classic and timeless. She suggests Jessica Simpson wear a blush-colored dress with an asymmetrical neckline. She recommends bride-to-be Vanessa Minnillo wear a dress that enhances who she is, suggesting she wear a "Cinderella" type dress.

We've got a sneak peek of Russell Brand stopping by "Rachael Ray" to chat about a wide range of topics including his misbehaving cats and Britain's royal wedding.
When Rachael asks the 'Arthur' star who he would buy an extravagant gift for if he had unlimited money, Russell said he would choose his three cats, all of which he says are spoiled despite them being mischievous "jerks."
"One of them, Morrissey -- the oldest -- he's on Valium, cat Valium," Russell tells Rachael. The actor says he wouldn't have even thought about getting help for his cats before moving to the Los Angeles. "I didn't think I'd ever have a cat psychiatrist in my house, let alone a man waving a crystal over my cat's head."
When asked whether he planned to watch the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the British actor joked, "If I was glued to the TV, that's the only way I'd watch it." But Russell -- who married pop star Katy Perry last October in India -- did say he has warmed up somewhat to the royal family.
"I don't know, the royal wedding, I like it. Since I've been in your country America, I am more interested in the royal family. Before when I was in England, I thought, they're repressing us -- bloody aristocracy -- power to the people, fight the system. Now I think ah, what a lovely dress."
Catch the full interview on Friday's "Rachael Ray."

TheInsider.com was there as Jessica Simpson appeared with First Lady Michelle Obama at an event for military families and revealed that she just started to consider possible wedding dates a few days ago.
The singer -- who performed an emotional rendition of "God Bless America" for about 250 military families at Coors Field in Denver -- said she is still trying to nail down a date for her wedding to her fiancé, former NFL football player Eric Johnson.
"I am planning a wedding, I mean I'm starting to. I hadn't started until two days ago, I was like 'okay, I'm going to jumble around three dates before the end of the year and see what fits for everybody in my life. So we'll see what happens, but I know that I'll definitely be married by the end of the year," Simpson said.
First Lady Obama thanked Simpson for attending the event, in which the children of military service members were given the chance to interact with her and the singer and also watch a major league baseball game on jumbo screens and take part in games and activities at the stadium where the Colorado Rockies play.
Vice President Joe Biden's wife Jill also attended to promote a White House initiative aimed at encouraging all Americans to support military families. For more information and to get involved with the Joining Forces initiative, click here.
"I am very honored and very blessed to have been asked by Mrs. Obama herself to come here and to help launch this initiative, which I believe in so much. So I'm so glad that I was one of the people she chose to stand in support for this," Simpson said.
Jumping back to April 14, 2004, Lindsay Lohan and Tina Fey sat down to talk about their new film 'Mean Girls' and how much they respect each other.
'Mean Girls' was Fey's first feature film script, and in the interview she even talked about hoping to write another one on the next break from "Saturday Night Live".
Lohan would be working with Fey again as she was scheduled to host "Saturday Night Live" shortly after this interview was held. In the interview, Lohan mentioned how she almost turned down the offer to host. Lohan said, "You know I got to the point where I was really nervous and I was like, why don't I just tell them I can't do it"
Check out the video to see the two stars talking about working with each other.
