'Smash' Gets Off To 'Beautiful' Start
With apologies to the kids of McKinley, Glee's day in the spotlight is over now that we're less than three months away from the series premiere of NBC's Smash -- an emotionally stirring drama, chronicling what it takes to get a new Broadway musical off the ground.
Writing (Debra Messing's character), producing (Anjelica Huston's character) and directing (Jack Davenport's character) all get their due, but at its core, Smash is about two actor's drive to succeed: Katharine McPhee's Karen and Megan Hilty's Ivy.
They're the two finalists in the competition to star in a new Marilyn Monroe musical, and spend the bulk of the pilot singing their hearts out. In anticipation of the February 6 series premiere, a Vevo Smash channel just went live with Katharine's rendition of Christina Aguilera's Beautiful, the song that vaults Karen onto the producer's shortlist.
