When word broke that Max would be getting a serious boyfriend on ABC's Happy Endings, fans were a wee bit confused since the character has spent the past year mocking and maligning long-term relationships. Turns out, star Adam Pally was thrown as well. "It just seemed so crazy," he told me at The GQ Men of the Year celebration. "But Max is an ever-evolving human and I think he's ready to find his guy."

It also doesn't hurt that the man in question will be played by Lone Star cutie James Wolk. "Not too bad to look at, that James Wolk," Pally joked before adding, "although a lot of people will see us together and think I'm the Kevin James in this relationship."

All kidding aside, Adam is looking forward to (once again) showing America a different side of the gay community. "I'm excited that Max is going to have a longterm love interest. I think it'll be fun to play and I think it'll be really cool to see that on TV."

But how intimate will the two be getting on-screen? "As far as James will let me go," Adam laughed. "I assume that the country has gotten a little more comfortable with seeing a gay relationship on screen, so we will be making out. Most people make out in their relationships."

Happy Endings airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
