Your typical TV show would use a deliciously snarky character to inject a little bite into our main character's life. Judy Greer has built a career out of playing this "best friend" archetype. But Suburgatory is one of two freshman shows (MTV's Awkward is the other) to discover the magic that comes from putting the best friend in the spotlight -- and we've discovered the magical Jane Levy in the process.

As Tessa, Jane brings to life one of the most refreshingly real main characters a sitcom has introduced in years which vaulted her onto my Breakout Stars of 2011 list!

I chatted with Jane about the shock that comes along from starring on a hit show, what you can expect from tonight's all-new episode and which line is her favorite to date!

TheInsider.com: Suburgatory exploded out of the gate with love from critics and fans alike, did you know this show was something special?
Jane Levy: No, I didn't. You never know. Well maybe some people do but I feel like I'm always wrong about all the projects I've starred in [laughs]. There are so many factors you can't control and so many different people with so many ideas, that it really comes down to luck when things come together – especially this early on. When we got picked up for a full season, I was shocked. And when I saw the second episode, it was better than I thought. I've been thrilled by every surprise, but it's still yet to settle in. I don’t know that it will. I’m still waiting.

Insider: What's been your favorite part of this experience?
Jane: I love having the time -- 22 weeks worth -- to create a character. We also don't really know what's coming next week or the one after that, so you develop a character in the moment. I think it's probably the best part of this for me.

Insider: Tonight's episode, called Driving Miss Dalia, revolves around Tessa & Dalia's relationship. Do you think they could ever really be friends?
Jane: Um … I don't actually [laughs]. I think they're so opposite that it would never work. I don't know why, but I think deep down, Tessa has a bit of affection for Dalia. I don't think Dalia feels it back for her, I think Dalia is pretty vapid – I know that's harsh, but most people would agree. I think underneath, Tessa does feel a little bit for Dalia but starting tonight -- and lasting for a long time -- they are going to fight over a boy (Scott Strause).

Insider: We watched Tessa get her flirt on in episode 2, do you think she and Dalia are on an even playing field romantically?
Jane: I think anyone would be competition for Dalia [laughs] The reason Tessa likes Scott is because he's smart and Dalia likes him because he's popular. OK, they both like Scott because he's really cute too but he's really thoughtful and Dalia isn't that thoughtful -- that's why Scott and Tessa click more. There's a great moment in tonight's episode when Dalia and Scott are on a date and Dalia is asking him about his time in Zombie-a. That killed me.

Insider: Fans have their favorites, but what is your favorite moment from season one so far?
Jane: In the Thanksgiving episode, when Ryan Shay is talking about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and it really confusing Ace Ventura. That line, where did it come from? Genius.

Suburgatory airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. on ABC
