Oh Grandma, what big plans you have.

At least that's what you'll be saying after watching the 2012 premiere of The Secret Circle as Charles' mother, Kate, comes to Chance Harbor.

But anyone who believes chance brought her to town clearly hasn't been watching this show, which serves up its best episode to date tonight. In anticipation of grandma coming to town, I chatted with actress Stepfanie Kramer in an attempt to wring every juicy teaser out of her I could.

Insider.com: How do you describe Kate Meade?
Stepfanie Kramer: She's a very interesting character -- I like how her mind works, even though she has some issues [laughs]. She's the antithesis of me, which is always fun. She is Charles' mother, so there's obviously respect but their relationship is very strained. But she adores her granddaughter – she and Diana are very close. I will say that when I played the role, I was given a wedding band and a wedding ring to wear, so ... there must be a Mr. Meade somewhere.

Insider: Kate is one of these elders we've heard so much about. Does her return to Chance Harbor have anything to do with what's happened in the first half of the season?
Stepfanie: Absolutely. She comes back because of everything that has happened in season one. Everything with the new circle and [Charles and Dawn] is a motivating factor for why she comes back to the scene.

Insider: Does she have an agenda?
Stepfanie: Oh, she's got an agenda, that's for sure [laughs]. I will say that she is a complicated woman who makes some choices many will find startling. But it's done out of love and she's looking at the big picture. She knows a lot more than she lets on. Kate is very observant and very calculating. She walks the line between being friendly and open before getting quite creepy. But that's what we want from our witches [laughs].

The Secret Circle airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
