Professional athletes have a notorious advantage in The Dancing With the Stars competition, but will tennis legend Martina Navratilova's AARP status be a gamechanger this season?
Not if she has anything to do with it, says the 55-year-old Wimbledon champ!
"I'm definitely here for the fifty-and-over folks," beamed Navratilova at a recent rehearsal with partner Tony Dovolani.
As Fitness Ambassador for the American Association of Retired Persons, Martina tells The Insider's Kevin Frazier she felt obligated to accept the DWTS invite, as it would lend a positive message to her fellow seniors.
"This is about as far out of my comfort zone as I can get," explained Navratilova of her initial reluctance, eventually agreeing to the gig to promote the positive message that age should never be an obstacle in trying new things. "I'm putting myself on the line [with Dancing]. It's so much easier to say no."
Watch the interview for more, including insight into Martina and Tony's strategy towards achieving Mirror Ball greatness.
The new season of Dancing with the Stars kicks off in a special two-hour premiere episode on Monday, March 19 on ABC.
